College
Education
I attended the University of Michigan, College of Engineering in Ann Arbor, MI. I graduated as a Computer Science Engineer in April 2009. Even though my curriculum primarily revolved around programming and math, my ever-increasing interest in the stock markets and finance insured I was always following the markets and reading up more on them.
Extra Curriculars
I was involved in several clubs and organizations, however the two most notable of those were - Omega Gamma Pi Fraternity - a social fraternity that me and a few others founded. I was the President of the Fraternity for two years. Another organization that I enjoyed a lot was the Financial Derivatives and Risk Management Club, for which I was the Vice President of External Relations.
Work
I worked throughout college to keep building my resume, get some valuable experience, and at the same time earn some spending money on the side. I worked at several university departments providing tech support for their computer needs. Some cooler things that I did were:
1. Nanotech Research: Worked in a nano-photonics laboratory and developed a software for analyzing frequencies of laser beams.
2. Cerner Corporation, Kansas City, MO: Worked as a software engineer (intern) in Kansas City for a summer. Got my first dose of a corporate environment and fell in love with KC BBQ.
3. Major Investment Bank in New York City, NY: I left out the name of the bank to avoid any possible conflict of interest due to the similarity between the content of this blog and the industy of my employer. At this position I got to loving the fast-paced financial environment, and also the hustle-bustle of New York City. I realized that this is where I wanted to be, and accepted a full-time position here, starting July, 2009.
4. Hedge Fund in MI: I am leaving the name out here too, to avoid possible conflicts of interest. I worked here for about 6 months during college, and the summer following college as a Trader Assistant. This was probably the most learning experience for me. I got to thoroughly follow and understand the financial markets, and add a lot (hopefully) of discipline to my trading and investment practices.
Post-College
I am writing this on 7/6/2009 and am getting ready for my big move to New York City in 2 weeks to start working at the “major investment bank” that I mentioned above. В This is a whole new phase of my life and I want to start off by forming healthy investment and savings habbits. I will be posting about my progress here and use it as a tool to track my financial and personal moves over time.
